Millions of students who are eligible for aid fail to file the FAFSA each year, leaving money on the table that could be supporting their postsecondary education. In an effort to raise the FAFSA completion rate, three states have now passed legislation requiring high school seniors to complete the FAFSA. Louisiana was the first, starting its requirement for the 2017-18 academic year. It was followed by Texas and then Illinois, both adding the requirement in 2019.

This webinar, presented by NCAN Director of Policy and Advocacy Carrie Warick, will provide an overview of an emerging trend in state policy, a discussion of the evidence and latest data from implementation, and a look ahead at the 2020 legislative session about what states may consider a similar mandate.
