Featured Speaker: Dr. Laura W. Perna

Laura W. Perna is GSE Centennial Presidential Professor of Education and Executive Director of the Alliance for Higher Education and Democracy (AHEAD) at the University of Pennsylvania. She has served as President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), Vice President of the Postsecondary Division of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and chair of Penn’s Faculty Senate. She is a member of the Gates Commission on the Value of Postsecondary Education and Board of Directors for the Postsecondary National Policy Institute. Her research focuses on identifying how social structures, educational practices, and public policies promote and limit higher education access and attainment, particularly for students from underserved groups.

What Will Be Covered

EFC's Annual Membership Meeting will expand and broaden the range of issues covered and provide a deep dive on specific topics including:

  • Expand opportunities for EFC members to empower students to succeed as they plan and pay for college
  •  Identify the latest developments in the capital markets, with a focus on alternative student loans and refinancing programs
  • Identify funding and opportunities for bond-financed education loan programs, and new issue opportunities
  • Examine new and emerging market opportunities to finance higher education
  • Identify federal and state regulatory developments that pertain to the origination, marketing, and servicing of education loans
  • Gain perspective on the Congressional agenda — identify pending legislation that affects postsecondary education financing and the tax-exempt bond marketplace
