The Massachusetts state legislature created the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) in 1982 at the request of colleges and universities across the state. MEFA also offers an education refinancing loan (MEFA REFI) designed to help young professionals lower their interest rate and monthly student loan payment.
